    Joint Supplements for Senior Dachshunds

This is a specific conversation about Senior Dog Supplements — ask about yours and get one honest answer for your exact situation.

Three joint chews tried and no real difference in back stiffness — that's genuinely frustrating, especially with a Dachshund. Their spines take a lot of strain by design, so standard glucosamine chews often just aren't strong enough. How long did you give each one a try, and has your vet ruled out IVDD or any disc involvement?
We gave each one about 6 to 8 weeks. The vet checked him over and said it's age-related stiffness rather than a disc problem, which is a relief. He's 11, moves slowly in the mornings and struggles a bit on stairs.

Good that IVDD has been ruled out — that does change what's likely to help. Six to eight weeks is a fair trial, so the issue is almost certainly the potency rather than the patience. Most over-the-counter chews have quite low levels of active ingredients. What were the three you tried? I want to make sure I'm not sending you in the same direction.
We used Lintbells YuMOVE original, Pooch & Mutt joint chews, and a supermarket own-brand one. He's about 9kg.

That's really useful — and actually it tells me exactly what to suggest. You've tried the standard YuMOVE, but not the stronger version. YuMOVE PLUS for Dogs is a step up specifically designed for older dogs or those who didn't respond to the original. It has a higher concentration of green-lipped mussel, hyaluronic acid, and omega-3s, and the dose for a 9kg dog is meaningful rather than token. For a Dachshund with morning stiffness and stair trouble, this is the version that tends to make a visible difference where the standard formula didn't.

I didn't realise there was a PLUS version. Is it much more expensive, and how long before we'd expect to see something?
    inparticular.ai
It's a bit more than the original — typically around £25 to £30 for a 60-tablet pack on Amazon UK, which is about a month's supply at his weight. Give it a solid six weeks before judging it, though many owners notice easier movement around weeks three or four. Morning stiffness is often the first thing to improve. Since he's already been on a green-lipped mussel supplement without full effect, I'd also mention to your vet whether a short course of anti-inflammatory support alongside it might help him turn the corner faster — sometimes the two together work better than either alone.
That makes sense. We'll give YuMOVE PLUS a proper go and mention the anti-inflammatory idea to the vet at his next check. Thanks.

That sounds like a solid plan. Keep a simple note of how he manages the stairs and how long it takes him to get going in the mornings — it makes it much easier to spot gradual improvement that's easy to miss day to day. Hope he's moving more freely soon.
