Best permanent cage for a Caique

Moving a Caique out of a travel cage into a proper permanent home is one of the best things you can do for them — travel cages are genuinely stressful for long-term living. Cage size is the single most important factor here: most budget cages are too small for a bird to fully extend its wings, which is a real welfare issue, not just a comfort one. Bar spacing matters just as much — Caiques need spacing around 19–22mm to prevent head entrapment. Before I point you in the right direction: is this for one Caique or two, and how much floor or wall space do you have available in the room?

Good — that gives you real flexibility. For a single Caique, you want a minimum footprint of around 60cm x 60cm, but honestly bigger is better as long as the bar spacing stays in that 19–22mm range. Caiques are climbers and acrobats, so height matters more than width for them. What's her current travel cage like — do you know the rough dimensions? And does she spend time outside the cage daily, or is the cage her primary living space?

Put her food and water in the same relative position she's used to. Give her a day or two to settle before you start rearranging things. Most Caiques take to a new large cage within 24 hours — you'll probably find she immediately starts investigating every corner.

Good choice. One last thing worth doing: once she's settled, add a couple of extra natural wood perches at different heights and diameters — it keeps her feet healthy and gives her more climbing routes. Caiques thrive on variety in their environment, so rotating toys every few weeks will keep her engaged. She's going to love having proper space.
